Protect Your Home’s Exterior This Fourth of July — Before and After the Fireworks

Happy Fourth of July! Whether you're hosting the neighborhood BBQ, setting off sparklers in the driveway, or just enjoying the show from your porch swing, Independence Day brings excitement. But it can also bring potential hazards for your home’s exterior.

We’ve seen firsthand how a night of celebration can turn into weeks of repairs if you’re not careful. So before you fire up the grill or break out the Roman Candles, here are a few easy ways to protect your siding, roof, windows, and more from Fourth of July fallout.

5 Easy Ways to Protect Your Home’s Exterior

1. Move the Fireworks Away from the House
Even sparklers can burn at 1,200°F! Keep all fireworks and open flames well away from your siding, gutters, and any overhangs. Light them on concrete at least 30 feet away if possible, not on grass near your home's foundation.

2. Wet Down Used Fireworks Before Disposal
Once the show’s over, don’t toss fireworks straight into the trash. Soak them thoroughly and wait at least 24 hours before throwing them away in the dumpster. This simple step helps prevent unexpected fires from leftover sparks or embers.

3. Watch Where You Park
Don’t leave vehicles under trees or near the roofline. Falling embers or melting debris can do more damage than you’d expect, especially to windshields, paint, or vinyl trim.

4. Hose Down Your Roof & Gutter Edges
Dry leaves or debris in your gutters + a rogue firework = a call to the local fire department. Giving your roof a light rinse before you start lighting up the fireworks can reduce the chance of embers catching.

5. Grill Smart, Not Smoky
Keep your grill at least 10 feet from siding and deck railings. Never grill under any eaves (overhanging edges of your roof) and always keep a fire extinguisher nearby (yes, really!).

Recovering from the Holiday

Sometimes the party gets out of hand. The “don’t worry, it’ll be fine” firework backfired. The wind took a sparkler into the bushes. Or your cousin lit a mortar under the patio awning (you know who you are). Here’s how we can help clean up those red, white, and boo-boos:

  • Melted Siding - We’ve seen it all, and we can repair it. We can match your existing color or help you upgrade your entire look.

  • Firework Roof Fallout - We offer free roof inspections to check for heat damage, debris punctures, or lingering embers. It never hurts to get your roof checked!

  • Window Screen Singed or Cracked - No shame. Our window team handles fast repairs or full replacements.

  • Deck or Gutter Scorched - We’ll inspect the area and restore your home before the next backyard bash.

Tip: If you’ve got “holiday debris” stuck in the gutters or mystery marks on your roofline, take a photo before you clean it up. It helps us—and your insurance adjuster—document any needed repairs.
